Sandusky, Ohio Last Visited: June 2012 Top Thrill Dragster
Yet another former world record holder for Cedar Point, Dragster claimed the title of tallest and fastest coaster on earth in 2004.
After being launched at 120mph, the trains pull straight up and ascend the 420 foot tall tower
On the other side of the peak riders dive straight back down, this time with a 270 twist Cedar Creek Mine Ride
One of the more sedate coasters in the park, the Mine Ride can provide a much needed rest Millennium Force
The previous World Record-breaker at the park, MF has a "old-fashioned" lift hill
After climbing the 310 foot lift, riders drop back down 300, almost straight down
One of the more isolated rides in the park, MF does most of its damage on an island in the middle of a lagoon
This is one of many overbanked turns in the layout, with riders almost completely upside-down
Even the third hill towers over other rides at 182 feet, taller than most coasters
Heading back towards the station, Millie still averages over 60 mph Magnum XL-200
Pressed right against the shore on Lake Erie, Magnum is an out-and-back classic, the original hypercoaster Raptor
Formerly the tallest, fastest, and the most twisted inverted coaster on the planet, Raptor was also formerly my #1
With chairlift-style seats, riders? legs dangle exposed over the main Midway
At the peak of the lift, the train makes a sharp diving turn down towards the pavement
With Blue Streak modestly in the background, Raptor takes center stage on the skyline
Raptor starts off with a 100 foot tall vertical loop
Followed by a Zero-G Hearline spin
Next, the Cobra Roll towers over the Derby Downs, in a stark contrast of old and new
The pace continues as trains corkscrew over buildings and bystanders alike
Only a second of relief as trains head back under the lift, again frighteningly close to the sidewalk
The grand finale starts with one last corkscrew, the 6th inversion for those counting
And really whips into gear with an insanely high-G downward spiral Power Tower
The ever-changing skyline was spiked with this towering freefall ride Two of the legs will shoot you straight up 240 feet, and the other two will shoot you straight down Iron Dragon
The fun-but-not-too-thrilling suspended coaster swings through its mist filled finale Mantis
Like Raptor, Mantis was the tallest, fastest, and most twister coaster of its type
Except on this one, there are no dangling feet, since riders stand up through the 3900 feet of track Back Home |
